The book is about a smart, young , black man who is recruited from his job at Starbucks to work a job at a high stress start up. We witness his rise in the company and his moral decline as he ascends. He remains a likable character even as he starts drinking, sleeping around and turning his back on those that love him the most.
He does manage to do some good along the way and spends time helping others who he feels could use a hand. I don't want to ruin the ending but it is not a typical or predictable ending. It is a good book with a good ending.

The only thing that bothered me is that almost every white person in the book was a total ass. Also, this is a quote from the book, "If you are a black man, the key to any white person's heart is the ability to shuck, jive, or freestyle" . As a white woman, I can say that is not true in my case and definitely ruffled my feathers a bit.

But it is still a good story and worth a look.
