I have to give 5 stars to something so engaging. I couldn't put down BLACK BUCK via audiobook thanks to Libro.fm. I tremendously appreciated the class commentary & especially the race commentary. treatment of gender was suboptimal as other reviewers noted. brief synopsis: Darren works at Starbucks when Rhett picks him up to work at fancy tech startup Someone, which aims to convince customers that they're Someone. chaos ensues. 2 commentaries that I thought were brilliant (1) a sort of parody of Jen Sincero or any 'believe it & you can do it' fluff. (2) smart commentary on how being Black on Wall Street today isn't too different than it would've been 200yr ago. at one point a white man literally buys & owns the protagonist. engaging & thoughtful book. takes place in NYC, & beautiful cover effectively represents the energy of the story.
