Thanks for the chance to read this excerpt. I was provided an ARC of this book a while back but didn't get around to reading past chapter 3 or 4, so this actually helped a lot to start where this is. I think that I am really missing something with Black Buck. Everyone seems to adore this book, but I kind of find it obnoxious. However, there are some things that I think are pretty good about this read: it's modern, it's diverse, it's realistic (in some ways), it's relevant, and it's marketable. It can get people excited about reading and it entertains people. I think that is the most important thing about a book, even if I don't particularly get excited over it. Another great strength about this book is its ability to be witty. It's satire, with some really witty bits and some not so much. I also think that it has some decent aims in social commentary, which is pretty cool. All in all, this book doesn't need my approval at all, it's winning all on its own!
