Black Buck, by Mateo Askaripour, is described as "a blazing, satirical debut novel of a young man given a shot at stardom as the line Black salesman at a mysterious, cult-like, and wildly successful startup where nothing is as it seems." Based on this description and the first look provided by Bookish First, I was pulled into the story and wanted to read more.

After Darren "Buck" Vender is given a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn sales in a startup environment after impressing the CEO during his morning coffee order, his life is turned upside down. Being the new employee at a company comes with its challenges, but being the only Black employee becomes a whole challenge in itself for Buck.

Clashing with people at work, as well as neighbors and family from his "past" life, Darren becomes pulled in two directions and eventually has to make a choices as to which way he will turn.

The story showed the struggle of minorities in white dominated fields. Though the story was described as satire, I felt like it was very realistic and is something that is probably very prevalent in the tech/startup industry. Overall great book with a great message that we all can learn from
