This satirical book had me immediately interested in Darren and his life.
He is discovered by Rhett the CEO of Sumwun while working at Starbucks. After joining the startup he realizes that he must work harder and prove himself to not just everyone in the company but also to his family in his quest to make his mother proud.
And so he creates "Buck" his salesman persona and in turn becomes unrecognizable to those he loves.
There is quite a bit of indirect racism and I am not sure I would have been able to just sit there and take it as I was called out to do all these embarrassing things and have them done to me as "jokes".
This book definitely puts into perspective some of the struggles that POC have to deal with everyday while trying to build a successful career and be recognized as important members of a company.
I enjoyed the author's voice and the story that he was trying to get across.
