I was unsure of this book at first, as I felt it was targetted towards black readers and I am as white as Casper. However, I LOVED this book. I got so much out of it and it was just an all around great read. This year I have been trying to read more books with characters that are not white, middle class like I am. This was such a great book to embody diversity.
This book embalms, in my belief although, again, I am not black and I consider myself pretty privileged, what it would be like living as the sole black person in a company full of white privilege. The characters had a depth that I would not have guessed if I were judging based on the cover and synopsis. Buck pissed me off with his decisions at times, but it is easy to see why he did the things he did in each situation. I grew to love each character as if they were real, and want more from the book. I could read this as a whole series! And I can picture it as a hit movie. This is one of the best books I've read so far this year!
