Christina McDonald's new novel is compulsively readable. Eva's mother has been murdered and she is the prime suspect. Since she can't remember what happened the night of her mother's murder, Eva isn't even sure of her own innocence. She decides to investigate herself and discovers secrets that have been hidden for years. Unlike other unreliable heroines, Eva is strong and determined. She doesn't let her fear or uncertainty deter her from finding the truth. McDonald does a lovely job of creating a complex and emotionally charged relationship between Eva and her mother. The suspense builds throughout the novel, making it quite the page turner. It's an engaging and well written thriller, perfect for fans of that genre.
