Special thank you to Gallery Books for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

“If you repeat something enough, it becomes the truth. When people hear the same story again and again -- especially when they want to believe that story -- a new type of reality can be created.”

Behind Every Lie is the story of Eva Hansen and her mother, Kat, told in alternating perspectives throughout the novel. The story begins with Eva, a quite unreliable narrator, awakening in the hospital after being struck by lightning, only to find that her mother has been murdered. Although everything in Eva’s mind is a jumbled mess, she feels certain she had nothing to do with the murder, even though she’s the prime suspect and has a great deal of evidence stacked against her. It is only after arriving in London, in an attempt to piece together details of her mother’s life, that Kat finds out nothing is as it seems in her life.

There were enough twists and turns in this book to keep me guessing until the very end, but without the creepiness factor I like to see in a truly compelling thriller. For that, I will give this one four stars. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to readers who prefer this genre of domestic thrillers.
