You don't have to look further than the prologue's first line to anticipate the thrill and suspense Christina McDonald's 'Behind Every Lie' promises. "What have I done?" This opening line has an echo, a weight.

I'm invested in 'Behind Every Lie', however, not only for its suspense-building, but also for its emerging themes: trauma and memory, mother-daughter relationships, family secrets. I predict this book will keep you turning pages, and will "stay" with you, even after you read the final page.

The book cover's fractured glass border is intense but beautiful. Another draw for the thriller.
