I liked this one and found it to be a fairly fast read, however, I didn't feel that it lived up to the heavy hype as the "next big thing" in thrillers (though I'm starting to feel that I'm possibly just burnt out on the genre, and weary with having high expectations to be surprised and thrilled being dashed). The heart of the problem, for me, was that we're told so much about the characters that just doesn't feel true. As one example, it seems readers are supposed to sense some sort of passionate, instant connection between Maddie and Ian when they first meet, but it never reads that way- just that Maddie's somewhat obsessed with this "dangerous" seeming acquaintance that she never seems to really communicate with, and whose appeal seems lacking. The ending was, to me, not as surprising or shocking as I think it was intended to be, and while that doesn't necessarily ruin the story, it's tough when I had expectations of this really being the next book that would blow me away.
