I have been back and forth with this book - liking it and being bored. In some instances, that back and forth from past to present made sense and at other times I was lost.
I wanted to love the story. The friendship between Maddie and Jo, the budding romance with Ian, the scariness of the war torn climate in which they lived but the beauty that surrounded the heart ache and pain that they saw each and every day.
I wanted to love it but it was just ok. Crazy at times but still just ok. I have recommended it to several friends though - I feel like even though it might fall short for me others may love it! I think some of the portions were too much for me and I had to skip a paragraph here and there.
