Where do I begin with this one? This book chronicles a tumultuous relationship between Maddie and Ian. They are currently married and have a toddler, Charlie. Maddie is being plagued with anxiety and is seeing a journal therapist. Ian is out of the country traveling for work. Neither of them are strangers to danger. They met in a war ravaged country where they both felt a connection to each other. It took years and many obstacles for them to be together such as Maddie's best friend that despised Ian, Ian's travel, and maybe Ian's issues that have come from seeing things no one should ever want to see. Is Ian a threat to his wife and child? Why is Maddie so scared? How was she severely hurt in an accident on a camping trip with her family? These are all the questions we have as the start of the book begins with a desperate 911 call. I found the book compelling and it had me right until the shocking end.
