Ward grabs the reader's attention right from the start. Alternating POVs allows the reader to see all sides of the story as it unfolds, and it adds to the tension. The timeline goes back and forth between before/after/day of the killing. The reader is taken back to the beginning of Maddie and Ian's relationship, then all the way through the complications leading up to a murder. Clues are interspersed throughout, but the reader is left guessing most of the way. I wanted to keep reading to see if I was correct. Oftentimes, I wasn't, and I always love that in a story, particularly in psychological thrillers. I've never read anything by Ward, but I likely will in the future. This story could set the bar for other books in 2019.
