Solid book
I thought this was a great YA fantasy debut. It had good world-building and an interesting plot.
The story follows two main characters, Kofi a girl who is an indentured servant and works for a night zoo and Ekon a boy training to be an elite warrior. If you like fantastical beasts and African inspired themes than you’ll probably love this book. I enjoyed both of these characters but was not particularly attached to either of them. However I appreciated the representation of black and neurodivergent characters in this book. The plot was engaging and I thought as a whole the story was very creative and well done. I really enjoyed and I think there are a lot of people who will also enjoy it. I think that this was incredible for a debut novel, and I’m confident that Anya Gray will continue to improve as an author. I’ll definitely be looking for any future books she writes.
