A YA fantasy about a girl trying to earn her freedom and a boy trying to make his family proud. They go into the jungle to search for the Shanti, a savage beast who has been killing locals. The boy and girl work together to try and achieve their individual goals.
I enjoyed it. First half was kind of boring, but it picked up when they went into the jungle. I enjoyed the descriptions of the creatures they encountered and the ending left me curious as to how the second book will go. I'd be interested to read the next book in the series and I'd recommend this book to other readers. If you enjoy adventure or quest books this one might be for you.
I did think the world building was a little confusing, especially in the beginning. So if you have trouble with that kind of thing, I'd recommend sticking with it. You will catch on eventually.
