Thank you so much bookishfirst and penguin teen for a copy of this book in exchange for my review!!! As soon as I saw this book listed I claimed it because I wasn’t taking a chance. It did not disappoint!!! This book is pretty dense starting out but it has fantastic world building without feeling like a total information dump! The magic system is awesome too. Once I got into this book I absolutely couldn’t put it down. I love the African lore that’s tied into this novel! The cover art for this book is gorgeous too. I’m excited for the next book to see where the story goes and how the characters and their relationships develop. Despite being 400 pages it was a pretty quick read. I love fantasy but I’m very picky with it and this book did not disappoint, perfect book to read in one sitting. I couldn’t believe it was a debut novel, it was that good!!!
