The Outsiders is a well-loved book for teen boys, it has a cast full of teenage boys and therefore it doesn't really draw teen girls into wanting to read the book as much.
This book takes a world-renowned book and retells it with a different cast and now more modern setting. While I think this book is a wonderful idea, I continue to wonder why we need retellings of our favorite books with modern settings. Some of the best parts of our classic books are that they were modern or futuristic when they were first written and that is what makes them so special. Taking a book that is already classic and so well-known is a risk and it makes you think the author cannot come up with ideas that aren't based on other books.
I do like this book cover however, it draws you into at least seeing what the book is about based solely on what the title and cover is trying to convey.
