What can I even say about Paul Pringle’s Bad City? I am not normally a non-fiction lover - I get bored with bland writing that is more prevalent in the genre. However, I could NOT put this book down. Bad City is easily the best non-fiction I have read in years. Pringle chronicles his life as a journalist for the L.A. Times and the ups and downs he and his team faced while uncovering scandal after scandal that involved faculty at USC, the Times, the police force, and the DA’s office. The bulk of the story focuses on Puliafito which paved the way for the uncovering of even more scandals. The length to which Pringle went to uncover the truth in the name of moral justice is remarkable. When everything was against him, he just kept going. His writing is superb - a merit strongly seen in his decades of journalism. After reading this book I am not even a little surprised that Pringle has won a total of THREE Pulitzers over the course of his career. Incredible.
