I was really excited to read this book, but I didn’t love it as much as I hoped I would. Starting on a positive note, I really liked the cover, and that drew me in to read the book even before the summary. The summary itself was interesting too, but the book didn’t appeal to me. I didn’t like the protagonist, Eldon, very much, so that probably had something to do with it. Like his peers were saying, he was selfish, and didn’t think things through. I understand that some of that came from trauma, but it was difficult to support someone who I often didn’t agree with. The story itself was also slow, I had trouble reading for long periods of time, because it felt like nothing exciting or big was happening. I really liked the writing style though, how the author shifted when telling the tales of the wishes in the past and when telling the regular story. In my opinion there wasn’t anything remarkable about this book, I don’t think I’d read it again.
