I didn't go into this book expecting much, simply because I haven't had many good experiences with magical realism thus far in my readings, however I was pleasantly surprised! Already from the beginning I was hooked by the hinting toward the town being different than your average town, and the main character smiling like there's "nothing to see here." I was pulled into the story by the talk of Area 51, tourists, no churches in the town, and wishes. I'm very interested to go on and read more of this book!
Right off the bat, I'm already a fan of the author's writing style. There were a few times I even chuckled out loud, which is impressive for the beginning of a book! I'm excited to get to know the characters more and delve into their story.
