The story is told by the mother and sisters in alternating chapters. It takes place in Philadelphia during the flu epidemic, the Great War and Prohibition. They had recently moved to the city so that the husband/father could learn the funeral business from his uncle. The family was also reeling from the recent loss of a baby boy due to heart problems and thought this would give them a chance for a new start and more opportunities.
I really enjoyed the story and thought it was very well written. I liked the story being told by the different voices of the family members. This gave different perspectives on what was going on in the city during this time period.
Definitely another best seller for the author.
