Only 3 pages in, and the prose seems very beautiful. This book is set at the beginning of the 20th century right in the midst of WWI and the beginnings of the Spanish Influenza. The main character, Pauline, is standing at the grave of her little baby who died due to a bad heart. The emotion evoked by only reading a few pages hooked me immediately. It was interesting how the prose revealed more of the situation the more you read. At first, it appeared, the main character was standing over her sleeping baby in his cradle, but it turned out to be much darker. This book seems to be real, beautifully emotional, and full of the courage of it's characters. I am looking forward to reading this book, and I hope I enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the first look of it.
