This is an adorable second chance romance. We follow Anamaria, a firefighter and fitness trainer, and Alejandro, a professional photographer. After high school Alejandro left to travel the world and Anamaria stayed behind to care for her father after he had a heart attack. Years later the wounds of the relationship are still fresh. This isn't helped by the fact that Alejandro is forced to return home after he breaks his leg on a photography expedition.
This romance is so sweet. There is a huge family aspect, with both characters being forced together by their meddling mothers. I adored how big of a role family played in the book, and it was one of my favorite parts. The community aspect in this book is amazing. There were also a lot of themes like familial conflict that were explored that I appreciated.
Anamaria is a very determined character, which I loved. She works as a firefighter and spends all of her free time as a fitness trainer. She holds classes and is really into healthy foods. I loved that she has different interests than the typical romance novel character.
I did not read the first book that this is the companion novel to, but it was still completely understandable, so don't feel that it is necessary to read Island Affair first. That being said, I do plan on picking up Island Affair because this was such a fun read.
If you are looking for a fun book that will let you escape to Key West, then this is the one for you!
