I was definitely looking forward to reading this book. Who doesn’t love a juicy scandal???! I started this book thinking it would be something different than it ultimately was, I think.

This is told from three perspectives, Sophie’s, her husband James’s and the barrister that prosecutes his rape trial, Kate. Initially, there is a lot of “did he/didn’t he” back and forth, and I wasn’t really sure where things were going until at least 50% of the way through the book.

Now, Kate is certainly not just the barrister assigned to get justice— we eventually find out there’s far more to her story than meets the eye.

Overall, this story was slow, and I contemplated stopping at several points. I kept going, hoping something would come together for me, since I loved this concept. Honestly, it didn’t really come together for me ultimately. I found the characters hard to like and the story slow to find the right pace. Overall, it was one I should have skipped, but kept it up hoping it would pick up.
