Anatomy of a Scandal is the story about one British government officials' trial for the sexual assault of his extra-marital lover. I really really really enjoyed this book. First off, it was well-written, with good pacing and great language. Since it was written by a British author, there were a few times I got a little confused by a word or phrase, but that really didn't bother me, and I could always get the gist from the context.

The story itself was riveting for multiple reasons. First, I really enjoyed the glimpse into the British legal system, something I know nothing about. There were a few aspects I think would really benefit the American court systems, even.

Second, it was realistic. It went, from start to finish, how I think a real situation like the one described would happen, for the most part. It doesn't have a traditional "happy ending", and that's how life is.

Third, it was just a damn good story! The shifting perspectives between three main, and five total characters was really interesting and didn't really distract from the pacing. All the characters were really well written and three dimensional. I think my favorite had to be Kate Woodcroft, as her mask of steel over her very painful vulnerability was written so beautifully and sensitively, and I just really enjoyed her chapters.

There really wasn't anything I didn't like about this book. It's a good courtroom drama, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys books in courtrooms and Brit Lit. I probably would give a trigger warning, as there are a few scenes that describe sexual assault, but it's not very graphic.
