I found it a bit odd that we start this extract at chapter 2, and what is there in chapter 1 we should know about? Having said that, what we do get to read is the start of a possibly interesting mystery - especially concerning what IS it that is about to be revealed. Surely not just his affair, though to a rising junior minister that is a threat. Unfortunately, there is nothing in what I read to make me think that the reveal and the rest of the novel are going to have something to elevate it beyond a mostly ordinary beginning. I would read the book but not sure I'd rush out to order it.
