While this story sounds like it could be a winner, for someone like me who doesn’t exclusively read historical fiction this was a bit of a stretch, but one that sounded like a cute role reversal. Unfortunately, I found this to be a little boring and got the feeling that it was trying just a little too hard. I do think anyone with a fondness for historical fiction in particular would probably like this, but I wanted our Countess to be a bit more likeable and natural in her audaciousness. Predictable, as far as love stories go, and just not quite progressive enough for this modern, 2019 reader I must say I was left wanting. Were there parts I enjoyed? Yes! I love a good witty banter and initial love story, but it just didn’t make the whole book worth reading to me.
