I committed to this book on a travel day. The story kept me engaged through waits in two airports and time on two flights. Jessica saw the opportunity to earn some extra money participating in a study on ethics and morals. She displayed some flexibility in her own morals in how she entered the study and the professor doing the research found Jessica intriguing. Dr. Shields, the professor, invited Jessica to go deeper in the study and engage in real-life scenarios. The hook for Jessica was financial- the money was definitely an enticement. Plus, the professor really listened, and seemed to understand her. But Jessica found the scenarios uncomfortable... and then even more uncomfortable. And I couldn't put the book down! No spoilers, so I will stop there. I think this is a solid entry into the domestic noir thriller genre and recommend it.
