Wow! This excerpt wasn't nearly long enough! From the very start it grabbed me and made me pay attention. If a few short pages can do that, what must the rest of the book be like?

I thoroughly enjoyed Hendricks' and Pekkanen's first book "The Wife Between Us", and this newest one seems to be another thrilling ride through psychological drama. From the very start we see that the main character has some flawed value judgements but also has a certain set of ethics which serve her in her work. She's very human, and in being so makes a snap judgement that appears to start her on a path that she can not see the end of for the darkness. This is a journey I am very interested to take with her, and I look forward to seeing what lies beyond the next curve.
