I certainly can’t take any points away from this review for plot, because it was definitely a page turner. Jessica takes the opportunity to slip into another’s girls slot at a research morality study, which is in and of itself a question of morality, but then finds herself in the middle of a moral quandary. The author of the study pulls Jessica deeper and deeper into a game of cat and mouse, involving fieldwork, the researcher’s husband, a previous research subject that has since turned up dead, and Jessica’s own family. It’s a whirlwind of suspense and intrigue and definitely a good book. The only thing that took away from this book for me was the researcher, Dr. Shields. She’s the narrator of her own chapters, and it flips back and forth between her and Jessica, and I found her tedious and dry and I just wanted to choke her and off her myself by the end of the story. I didn’t like the character at all, and while I know I’m not really supposed to, I disliked her so much, that she detracted from the story for me. She was too much of a suspension of disbelief for me. She was too much able to stay ahead of everyone else. No one is that good, or it just wasn’t explained well enough, one of the two. Either way, I didn’t like her.
