The first instinct is to look at this book as a "cat and mouse" story. Jess is the mouse, but who is the cat? Is it Dr. Shields or Dr. Cooper? That question is intriguing enough, but there is so much more. The reader can also delve into his/her own ideals of morality and honesty. Money, as it affects family dynamics and moral decisions, is a key point . Jess has given up her career dreams to provide money for what she feels is an obligation. There is a wonderful sub-story about guilt within a family and how it could have been avoided with honesty. Although the resolution ties up all the loose ends, it is not completely a happy ever after ending. I couldn't help but wish that Jess had gone into Breakfast All Day instead of just looking in the window.
