I had a really hard time with this book, and I ended up only getting through roughly half of it before I had to give up. The characters felt rather flat to me, which I suspect was done in the pursuit of making them seem ruthless and capable of killing. This being said, I found them to be rather bland to read about, and I struggled to relate to them as people.
This book would be a good fit for those who enjoy pure thrillers without other elements to cut the story or expand it. Perhaps I was the wrong reader, and this was the wrong book for me, but I felt it lacked inspiration or joy.
I was initially drawn to American Homemaker because it reminded me of one of my favorite musicals, Sweeney Todd, but I discovered that I most definitely prefer the production to this book.
