Set in the 1940's after the great depression and people are getting back on their feet America has entered WWII. Dolly and Si turn their home into a boarding house to bring in some money. We do get to meet some of the boarders and one of them is Jesse and Ana. They are looking for work in Alabama as well as trying to save their marriage. I really wanted to love this story but, I had the hardest time getting through this story. There were some good points of the story but it just didn't captivate me. It was not one of those page turners that I could not put down. This was however, one of the few historical war type books that I have read and maybe they just are not for me. I do think if this is your type of genre then it would be a fantastic book for you.
