I wouldn’t mind reading historical fiction with some spiritual inspiration, but the part in the letter about a “horrible” couple from Reno being put into a drafty room while another couple deemed more worthy received a better room, immediately turned me off. I certainly hope the “horrible” couple received a discount on their subpar room. Who knows? Maybe the owner even charged them more because they were so “horrible”. This isn’t the way anyone should be running a boarding house even if it was in the 1940s in Alabama. I think I would have been more interested in reading this book if the letter hadn’t been included because it rubbed me the wrong way and set a very negative tone.
