Not for Me
I knew going in to this that this isn't my usual genre of books, but I was still looking forward to reading this book because it's about a lawyer who lives in Virginia, very near to Washington, DC. However, I was just very confused the whole time I was reading. Admittedly, this is the second book in the series and I have not read the first - maybe that would have been clarifying.
Sam is the lawyer, and at first he just seems like a regular defense attorney, but quickly you realize that Sam's clients are all special, and as it turns out, Sam is too. His father is a fallen angel, which I think gives Sam special abilities (it was clear to me that some of the clients had special abilities; Sam's were less clear to me.) Eventually, Sam and his colleagues end up in a holy trial of sorts. I didn't understand all of the religious parts of the storyline.
It seems from the epilogue that there will be a third book in the series featuring Alifair, Sam's cousin/niece (again, I'm not quite sure of the relationship!).
