The first thing that was a miss for me was the cover. It’s unappealing and really just weird. It’s the first thing people see when they think to read the book, but without prompt from this website I wouldn’t have picked this one up probably.
Not gonna lie, I’m not a fan of this excerpt. The preface was confusing. The trial scene, however, made me think this definitely wasn’t the right book for me. I don’t have a problem with setting up a character as being a certain way, but the dialogue and the inner thoughts just from this scene make me think that this book probably isn’t my cup of tea due to the 1) insensitivity toward rape content right off the bat; 2) mention violence right off the bat. HOWEVER. I can deal with all that in the context of a bigger picture; yet, I’m not pulled into the story within the first 20+ pages, I’m just left with a bad taste in my mouth over what I was able to see and read so far
