I felt a little lost on this one, but I'm going to assume that it's because I never read the first book. The characters are well-written and interesting, although I feel like the author could go deeper with the personality traits. Right now the main character seems a bit two dimensional. I would also like to see more of an explanation to bring the reader up to speed from book one, since I'm getting the idea that the hooker in the court trial was something more than human, but the exchange was so cryptic, she could have been his long-lost sister and I wouldn't know the difference. Not a fan of the near constant degrading talk about women in this book, but hey, everyone has their opinions on that. I'm interested to see more, but I feel like I really need to conquer the first book before I have a chance of understanding this one.
