Too much drama, too little content

This book. *sigh* The idea behind it sounded interesting. . . a boy posts a sketchy picture of a girl online and gets in trouble for it, and the families and communities deal with its implications. Sounds interesting, but somehow, from the very beginning, it never really drew me in.
Firstly, I found the characters irritating and difficult to relate to. They were stereotypical in a lot of ways, and I just found them flat and one-dimensional. They didn't seem realistic at all. I also found the premise of the book to be a bit weak. . . maybe I missed something, but I just didn't feel like it warranted all the drama that was being created. And that's the other thing - the whole book just felt like drama. I sort of felt like I was reading a soap opera. . . it was all drama, drama, drama. Actually, I did NaNoWriMo a couple of times - that's National Novel Writing Month, and the goal is to write a novel of fifty thousand words in a month. There are all sorts of tactics people employ to increase their word count, and, I don't know, some parts of this book felt like that. . . it was just drama and fluff.
So. . . I guess overall, this was not one of the best books I've read in a while. So it is.
