The high-society elite setting always sounds appealing to me, but if I had understood in advance the sort of dark troubles our characters would have with their kids, I might have been scared away from reading this.

But I'm so glad I did, because the story completely drew me in. With our three narrators, the mother of a boy in high school, the father of a girl in high school, and the daughter herself, your understanding of the characters and situations really builds.

I wouldn't call this a thriller, but the final revelations about the situation that set the whole story in motion are pretty horrible and earth-shattering.

In the end, I would have liked Ultimate Justice to have been served by the ending and denouement of this novel, but I guess it's all more open-ended than that. Like real life?

Anyway, I found this compelling from beginning to end.
