This novel is definitely a different turn for Emily Giffin. It takes a far more serious tone than her previous books. It's one of those novels that makes one imagine how one would handle things as a parent. It also deals with race, power, money, sexual assault, and social media. All current topics that all parents think about.

I found it compulsively readable. There was a point in the middle where I said wait, "no way" could I ever imagine reacting as any of the characters in this novel. Fortunately, it turned itself around and I found the ending very satisfying despite that. I hope Emily Giffin keeps this new more serious tone. I think it really worked for her and look forward to more like this.
