I really loved this book. I think because I could relate to it. There were a lot of stereotypes which I think was deliberate to give a good idea to people who maybe haven’t been exposed to say, southern old money groups.
But I have. And let me tell you, that s**t is real.
Let’s just say I’ve known a few Kirks. And Finch’s.
And maybe at one point I was Nina.
Ninas struggle was so heart wrenching, her realizations about her life, her marriage, her child, all hit me in the feels.
Tom was a bit much with his blatant disdain for the wealthy, but I’ve been around a lot of Toms too and they really are quite bitter. His parenting struggles though, sending your kid to a wealthy school when you’re not wealthy yourself is tough. It shouldn’t be, people shouldn’t be materialistic snobs but they are.
Lyla, yikes. I’m so glad it went in the direction it did for her. She’s a smart and relatively grounded kid.
I could have read a longer epilogue! I was so invested in ninas story. Loved this one.
