I struggled with this one.
I struggled with this one, unfortunately, as I found the premise quite intriguing.
I enjoyed the multiple timelines. I liked how Emily and Elizabet were a century apart in age and how they are struggling with grief they are unable to overcome.
First the POV. It could've benefitted from a first person POV, which would have made it easier for the reader to connect with the characters, particularly Emily. Dialogue felt a bit choppy at times, and there was a bit too much internal dialogue. There was a lot of repetition and overdetailing, which caused things to drag at times, and the pace was much slower than I'm used to with books in this genre. A tighter edit could have helped with these issues. Emily was an okay heroine, but I didn't care for Ryan at all.
Themes of grief could likely resonate with readers, if they can get past the feeling of being distanced from the story and characters.
