The first chapter has so much food talk in it that it made me hungry. Maybe I shouldn't have read this first look before eating my lunch, but the descriptive language was on point.
The two women in this novel are tied together through their grief of loosing loved ones. From reading the synopsis I already knew that Elizabet lost her husband, so when I was introduced to Emily's boyfriend I was worried that we would see him die within the first few pages. The deaths that Emily is dealing with however is that of her biological parents, who died in a car accident leaving her an orphan. Emily's new job assignment is working on the church where her parents were married years ago. Her grief is still raw, even though her parents have been gone for ten years.
The first two chapters tell Emily's story. I'm really curious to meet Elizabet and read about her. As a newly married woman (exactly one month today) I can only imagine the heartbreak of being separated from your husband when you were looking forward to seeing them again.
I want to see how this book explores both death and grief. I honestly think this could be a powerful read.
