The novel is amazing! It is about immigrants, families and their challenging and struggling life in the USA. The fictional characters seemed so real, and they are packed with feelings, changes and challenges on their daily drudgeries. The racial, social and cultural issues the characters faced left them desolated and defeated.
The book is a typical YA contemporary fiction, but offered more to the readers. Books about racism are always teachable moment, and this book gave many informative lessons for readers to comprehend. The author’s ability to churn the story—the characters’ emotional and psychological pains while struggling financially and facing racism—can be daunting and handful.
Throughout the novel, I have continued to admire and cheer for Sal and Noor to fight all the way. The sad ending felt so disappointing but the story has to end. It is a must read!
