This story of two teens, one a Pakistani immigrant and the other the son of Pakistani immigrants, plus that of Sal's mother, Misbah, inspires an absolute ton of feelings. While I haven't read Sabaa Tahir's fantasy books, this first contemporary story shows the writer has a huge range of talent. I listened to the audio of this book, and the three narrators did an excellent job portraying each of the main characters and the full ranges of their emotions. I don't think it's possible to read this book without feeling the rage of the title. While the book is dealing with things that real life teens are going through regularly, it's so hard to see all that these kids are being asked to carry- addiction, abuse, loss of a parent, financial insecurity, and a not small amount of racism- all while still dealing with the basics of being a teen, school, friendship, etc. This is a must read.
