I love that this book still "feels" like a Sabaa Tahir book, despite being contemporary versus her previous fantasy quartet. It clearly has family at its core, communicating the soul-deep bonds that may be worn and strained but are not yet broken, despite the pain they can cause. This will undoubtedly be a powerful book, and I'm eager to see if hope will eventually win out in some small way against the deeply entrenched pain we see in this opening excerpt.
