Laura Hall did a wonderful job with this book. She sucked me in with the mention of her father's reveal to her and then told us the story of her father's life in a way that flowed perfectly for me.

I have heart felt feelings for those that were gay when it was thought to be illegal and we could arrested for it. I would like to see more people share the stories of those that chose to live a life that did not feel natural to them. I truly enjoyed the plot for this novel.

Laura brought the characters to life so well that I could feel their hurt, their confusion and the love that her family had for each other. My favorite character is her father with his life long struggle to "be good". He made a promise to his wife and he kept it, even though it was the hardest thing he did in his life.

I have always believed that our children sense when things are not 100% right in their families even if the parents hide the things that they are struggling with. That is why Laura and her siblings had their own struggles - they knew something was not quite right, but didn't know what it was until their father revealed to them his true nature.
