This is a story about marriage, struggles, not feeling centered or belonged, and most importantly defining yourself in a world with so many expectations of individuals in society. I wasn't sure what I was expecting in this memoir of a girl growing up and her father coming out. But it is written with such honesty and openness of her failures in relationships that you relate to the family struggles and each individuals knowledge that something doesn't feel right. A sixty five year marriage today seems impossible and yet by definition it seemed like you had no choices in postwar II era. The 60's and 70's a time of sexual freedom and historical references in the book add value as to just how difficult the times were and how they added to decisions made by her father. The value in book is seeing that in understanding her father the author found herself.
