Affliction: Growing Up with a Closeted Gay Dad was an insightful read. This story dove deeply into the life of Laura Hall's father and how his choices effected not only his life but the life of his wife and his four children. Hall also offers up an honest perspective on her own life and she freely shared personal aspects of her life such as a teen pregnancy, multiple marriages, their subsequent divorces and her childhood fear of separation which led to night terrors.
This was a great read and I found myself both laughing and crying while reading it. My favorite part of this book was how Hall shared a full spectrum emotions in regards to finding out that her father was gay. She didn't gloss over her feelings and shared how the situation also hurt her. The final chapters were my favorite and I enjoyed watching how far all of the characters had grown.
