I don't really read memoirs, so when I won a copy of this book, I was a bit hesitant to try it out. I also don't really read books that deal with serious issues, including race and sexual orientation, so this book was another unusual read for me.

First, let's start with the cover. I really didn't care for the cover. It wasn't the sort that drew my eye and got me interested. The title too was pretty straightforward (I tend to favor books with titles that have meanings that are revealed later in the book or that are more artistic and flowery).

But the content really surprised me on how much I liked it. I really liked how the scene was set and how the characters were portrayed. The characters were really brought to life through the prose. I think the author did great at addressing such a hard topic. I really liked the character development and how they were changed.
